2021 Chicago Drum Festival
Client: Korean Performing Arts Institute of Chicago
Tools: Canva
Date: January 2022
This is the poster I created for KPAC’s 2021 Chicago Drum Festival. The main image is a world map overlaid on a snare drum. The font was taken directly from KPAC’s previous Chicago Drum Festival poster, which is most likely a reference to the Vic Firth logo. I wanted to use the same font to show a sense of continuity.
You might have noticed that there is no date on these materials. This event typically happens in the summer, but as of Summer 2021, the pandemic was still rampant. We decided to present the concert virtually, having each team record their own performances and then compiling into a single video presentation.
Coordinating different groups’ recording schedules, collecting the footage, and editing the video took longer than expected, so while all the performances were recorded in 2021, the video was actually released in 2022.
I created graphic inserts matching the poster to be used in the video.
And of course, I created 1:1 Instagram tiles to be uploaded to our social media.
After the video was published, I also uploaded screenshots (see below) and shared them on social media to promote the event and get more views. For these, I converted the world/drum image into a postage stamp, a concept I would carry on to the next year’s redesign.
